Bejo Zaden’s Intellectual Property Management Office (IP) was set up in the past few years to ensure protection of plant properties, plant varieties and technologies that originated from long-term and expensive breeding and research efforts. This protection is obtained based on breeder’s right and increasingly based on patents. Furthermore, the same department focuses on access to and controlling genetic plant material for breeding programmes and preparing and managing research and licensing contracts. Due to an increase in the activities and growth in this department, we are looking to fill the following vacancy for our Warmenhuizen head office:
Intellectual Property Specialist
(38 hours per week)
As an IP Specialist, you are able to prepare new patent applications, in collaboration with Bejo’s research and breeding departments and supported by an external patent attorney firm. You monitor Bejo Zaden’s patent portfolio and that of competitors, and you discuss the necessity of possible licenses. You closely monitor the developments in research and patents, and you discuss the strategy to be applied with the Research Director. You are also interested in issues related to biodiversity, and you will be active in controlling access to genetic plant materials for breeding programmes. In this, particularly the registration requirements relating to the
Nagoya Protocol play a big role. You will report to the Research Director.
You have a high level of professional and intellectual ability and you have experience in biology and/or plant sciences. This implies you have an accurate insight in the latest molecular and breeding methods. You are interested in their application in developing new plant properties and varieties. You are capable of collecting and interpreting patent information and you are able to complete the patent application process. Preferably, you have gained experience as an IP Specialist or as a patent agent. If necessary, you are prepared to complete training for these tasks. Some knowledge of and interest in issues relating to access to genetic plant material in the context of biodiversity issues would be a great aspect in addition to your knowledge of patents.
