Internship - Propagation of allium from seed

(Period: February – July 2024)

Apply now

The colleagues of the Sales department are responsible for selling and advising on vegetable seeds worldwide within six sales areas. For the department of Global Crop Management we are looking for a highly motivated student that can help us to find the optimum propagation method for allium plants from seed. This internship will take place in Warmenhuizen (The Netherlands)

Job content

Together with our partner ‘de Groot and Slot’, Bejo runs a breeding program to develop a vegetative multiplicated allium crop into a generative crop. This development has the potential to have a serious impact on the way this allium crop will be produced in the future. However, before we start the introduction of this innovation we want to define the exact production method. One of the challenges is to grow young plants from seed that can be used as starting material for outdoor productions in countries like Spain, Italy and France. In this internship you will test and find the optimum propagation method.

After your interviews with the stakeholders, you will define a plan to test different propagation methods. Our newly build plant nursery in Warmenhuizen will allow you to test under different circumstances. After testing you will be able to advice on the future direction. There are many possibilities to learn more about our breeding, production and sales of our vegetable products.

Job Requirements

  • An agricultural education at HBO level
  • Interest in plant cultivation and agri-business
  • The ability to work independently and proactively
  • Communication skills in Dutch and English
  • In possession of driving license B (for traveling between the different Bejo-locations)

During this internship, you will have the opportunity from day one to develop independently and in a team. Our informal company culture offers plenty of potential for personal initiative. In addition to growth in personal development, you will of course receive good coaching on your internship assignment. You will receive an internship allowance and shortly after the start of your internship you will be invited for an introduction day where you will get to know the entire company process.
